Peterson expects to return this season if Vikings stay in playoff hunt

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson expects to get back on the football field this season, but only if his team has something to play for.

"That's something I envision," said Peterson when asked if he will play again this season. The 31-year-old had meniscus surgery after Week 2 and hasn't seen game action since.

However, the veteran qualified his answer by saying he won't risk his health if the Vikings have been eliminated from playoff contention.

Peterson said he feels good and can make cuts on the practice field, but admitted that playing on Sunday is much different than practicing during the week.

At 6-6, the Vikings are second in the NFC North and still in contention for a division title or wild-card berth.
