Report: DeSean Jackson 'intrigued' by possibility of rejoining Eagles

Who doesn't love a good ol' reunion story?

The NFL world received a particularly compelling tidbit of news to tee up the upcoming offseason, when a recent report indicated that Philadelphia Eagles will likely attempt to reacquire DeSean Jackson in free agency.

Seemingly confirming a mutual interest between the two sides, a source close to the Washington Redskins receiver now tells ESPN's Tim McManus that he'd be "intrigued" by the possibility of rejoining his former team.

Jackson, who first landed with the Eagles as a second-round pick back in 2008, will officially hit the free-agent market when the new league year opens on March 9, 2017.

There should be a number of teams interested in his services at that time, and it's still far too early to rule out the possibility of the Redskins coming up with an acceptable offer to extend his current contract beforehand, but the veteran wideout heading back to Philadelphia would make sense for both sides.

Jackson remains one of the league's most explosive playmakers. His ability to stretch opposing defenses would be a major addition for a new-look Eagles offense that currently lacks such a talent.

Having surrendered their 2017 first-round pick as part of the package to move up and select Carson Wentz last spring, addressing the wide receiver position in free agency is the Eagles' most sensible option in pursuit of an instant-impact player.

From Jackson's perspective, the idea of stepping in as the primary receiver for a gifted young quarterback is reason enough to have Phildelphia high on his list of potential suitors. The preestablished relationship with the organization would, of course, also make for a simple transition.

Jackson earned three Pro Bowl appearances while racking up 356 receptions for 6,117 yards and 32 touchdowns across six seasons in an Eagles uniform. He's continued to produce at a relatively high level since landing with Washington after a surprise release in 2014, adding another 125 catches, 2,341 yards, and 13 touchdowns to his career totals over 36 games.
