The Detroit Lions announced Tuesday the signing of free-agent running back Joique Bell.

Bell rejoins the club with which he saw the most extensive action of his career from 2012-2015, racking up 2,235 rushing yards and 23 total touchdowns across 60 regular-season appearances.

The signing comes in the wake of an ankle injury that has Dwayne Washington's status up in the air, so Bell will presumably be primed for a depth role behind Theo Riddick and Zach Zenner.

Also joining the Lions is free-agent cornerback Asa Jackson.

Tight end Brandon Pettigrew was placed on the non-football injury list in a corresponding move, while defensive end Armonty Bryant and cornerback Quandre Diggs have been sent to injured reserve.
