49ers' Colin Kaepernick: Pulled after three quarters

Kaepernick completed one of five passes for four yards and rushed six times for 20 yards in three quarters before being pulled Sunday in Chicago.

Analysis:

Kaepernick mustered all of four passing yards while getting sacked five times for negative-25 yards through three quarters before being replaced by Blaine Gabbert. It would be nice to blame his struggles on the steady snowfall, but Bears quarterback Matt Barkley wasn't having too many problems carving up the 49ers defense with 10.7 yards per attempt in the same conditions. After the game, coach Chip Kelly stated that the move was simply to light a spark under the offense and not necessarily an indication of a depth chart change. Kaepernick likely built up enough goodwill prior to Sunday to remain the team's starter against the Jets next week.
