Rams' Fisher says new contract came during offseason

Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher confirmed after his team's 26-10 loss to the New England Patriots that he did receive a contract extension.

It was reported Sunday morning that the Rams recently gave Fisher, whose contract was set to expire after this season, a two-year extension.

When Fisher received the extension was unclear, however, and Fisher clarified after Sunday's game that it came during the offseason, according to Rams insider Myles Simmons.

This is a potentially significant detail, as Fisher's failings this season (the 4-8 Rams are assured of a fifth straight season without a winning record) could potentially put his job security in jeopardy despite his new contract.

Rams owner Stan Kroenke is rumored to view Fisher's value to the team as something beyond wins and losses, which may be why he gave Fisher the extension in the first place.

Whether Kroenke has a case of buyer's remorse remains to be seen.
