The Oakland Raiders will be without a key contributor in the secondary as they look to make good on their newfound playoff potential.

Cornerback DJ Hayden is heading to season-ending injured reserve as a result of the hamstring injury suffered in last week's win over the Carolina Panthers, head coach Jack Del Rio announced Friday, according to Vic Tafur of The San Francisco Chronicle.

Hayden had been unable to live up to expectations in the three years after joining the Raiders as a first-round pick back in 2013.

Some marked improvement allowed him to settle into a nickel role across 11 games to start this season, though, and his absence will be difficult to overcome given Oakland's relative lack of depth at cornerback.

TJ Carrie will step into a role as the slot corner alongside starters Sean Smith and David Amerson beginning Sunday afternoon against the Buffalo Bills.
