Browns' Robert Griffin: Could be cleared for contact this week

Griffin is scheduled for an examination of his left shoulder this week to determine if he can take contact, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Analysis:

The Browns' long-awaited bye week has arrived, but a quarterback quandary could be in the offing. Josh McCown has fared OK in back-to-back starts for rookie Cody Kessler, who was cleared from the concussion protocol Monday. If Griffin also throws his hat into the ring in the near future, head coach Hue Jackson will have a difficult decision to make for Cleveland's next game on Dec. 11 against the Bengals. Hence the reason Jackson told Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal that "it's too early to name a starting quarterback" for Week 14. Griffin has been sidelined since breaking the coracoid bone in his left shoulder during the regular season opener.
