The Tennessee Titans announced Monday the release of struggling starting veteran cornerback Perrish Cox, who had given up five touchdown catches this season, the third-most in the league.

Cox started nine of the Titans' first 11 games this season, but his grip on the starting job loosened with recent poor performances.

Despite Cox's poor play, his loss leaves a big hole in the Titans' secondary, which is giving up 362.7 passing yards per game.

In a corresponding move, the Titans promoted cornerback Kalan Reed from the practice squad.
