Finally. For the first time since 2014, a roughing the passer penalty was thrown on a player for a hit on Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.

The flag was thrown in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders when defensive tackle Stacy McGee took Newton to the ground and fell on him with all of his weight.

Such penalties have been a point of contention for Newton and the Panthers as they have felt he has not received the same treatment as other quarterbacks around the league.
