Goff expecting more chances to throw downfield

Jared Goff threw 31 times for 134 yards in his NFL debut Sunday. The reality is the Los Angeles Rams quarterback wasn't afforded much opportunity to throw the ball downfield.

The game versus the Miami Dolphins was played during a rainstorm, so checkdowns and short passes dominated the game plan. That will change this Sunday when the Rams visit the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and the high-powered New Orleans Saints offense.

"I sure hope so," Goff said Wednesday, according to Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times. "We've got some good stuff in this week, got a really good plan going. Guys look really good, look fast. And I think we've got a good chance to push the ball a little bit."

The Saints own the league's best offense, averaging 422 yards per game and 316 yards passing. The Rams are second-last in total offense with 299 yards per game.

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher praised Goff's performance in practice this week

"He was cutting it loose," he said. "He's got a really good feel for it ... he's putting it down the field and doing some good things.

"He's in complete control of what we're doing, so it's good to see, it's very encouraging."
