Luck in concussion protocol; Colts reportedly plan to start Tolzien

Andrew Luck's status for Thursday night's Thanksgiving matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers appears to be in considerable doubt.

The Indianapolis Colts quarterback was placed in the NFL's concussion protocol following the club's win over the Tennessee Titans, head coach Chuck Pagano announced Monday.

Not hopeful that Luck will be cleared in the next few days, the Colts are planning to turn to Scott Tolzien as the starter in his place, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Pagano said Luck's injury is believed to have occurred in the fourth quarter against Tennessee.

He wasn't removed from the game, but was evaluated after dealing with some symptoms later in the night.

As is the case with any player placed in the protocol, Luck will have to pass through all levels of the league's tests before being cleared to return. The short week of preparation in advance of Thursday night, of course, gives him a limited amount of time to do so.

Tolzien's last extended playing time came as a member of the Green Bay Packers back in 2013, when he started two games in place of an injured Aaron Rodgers.
