Fisher on Goff's shaky debut: 'You could see the light'

First overall pick Jared Goff wasn't particularly impressive in his first start for the Los Angeles Rams, but head coach Jeff Fisher is trying to stay positive about it.

On a wet Sunday in L.A., Goff completed 17-of-31 passes for 134 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions as the Rams fell 14-10 to the Miami Dolphins, allowing two crucial late touchdowns. After the game, Fisher sent a message to media that there were some good signs from his rookie's first action.

"He did a really good job," Fisher said Sunday, according to ESPN's Eric D. Williams. "No delay of games. He was in complete control in the huddle. He did a nice job on the line of scrimmage. I was disappointed in the outcome of the game, but you could see the light - there's light there for him.

"So we'll continue to allow him to get ready and continue to progress."

After nine games with Case Keenum at the helm, the Rams and their fans didn't quite know what to expect with Goff, who threw very few deep balls in his debut. The team will take on the New Orleans Saints on the road next week, where Goff expects to do more of the same.

"I don't expect us to do anything crazy next week," Goff said. "We'll do what we do. Of course we had shots in the plan and stuff that we wanted to do. I was really happy with the play-calling and felt very comfortable out there."
