Adrian Peterson appears to be taking some significant steps towards a potential late-season return.

The Minnesota Vikings running back has resumed light running as he continues to receive treatment on his surgically repaired knee, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reports.

Peterson underwent a procedure to repair a torn meniscus after sustaining the injury back in Week 2. As Florio adds, the projected timeline for him to get back on the field is still December.

Getting the perennial All-Pro back in the lineup at any point this season would, of course, be a major addition for a Vikings team that currently has the NFL's bottom-ranked rushing offense.

The only question that remains is whether Minnesota will still be in playoff contention when he's eventually cleared to play.

After overcoming injuries to both Peterson and Teddy Bridgewater to start the season 5-0, four consecutive losses undoubtedly now have the Vikings trending in the wrong direction.
