Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III has been cleared to resume non-contact football activities, but isn't ready to return to practice, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Griffin hasn't played since sustaining a shoulder injury in Week 1, which prompted the Browns to place him on injured reserve.

Griffin must be designated to return from IR if he is to play again this year. It now seems inevitable that he will be.

It's highly unlikely Griffin will be activated to play this week, however, which means Cody Kessler will remain the Browns' starter.
