Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton remains undeterred, despite a shocking 3-6 start to the season.

Newton and the Panthers rolled through the NFC last year, en route to a 15-1 mark and a Super Bowl appearance, while the 27-year-old captured his first NFL MVP award in a landslide.

To the surprise of many, the Panthers have stumbled out of the gate, sitting dead last in the NFC South. In spite of the turbulent campaign, Newton remains focused on securing a postseason berth with his inimitable swagger.

"We don't let our record dictate who we really are," Newton said to ESPN's David Newton.

Although Newton remains confident in his team, he implored the Panthers to focus on the small things as the team continues to dig themselves out of a massive hole.

"For us as a team, we just have to be better. When it's time to win we have to grit our teeth and find ways to win. Sometimes it may be big plays that makes SportsCenter. Sometimes it may be a hidden jewel, a great punt inside the 5-yard line. Those are some of the reasons we have won over the years," Newton said.

The Panthers enter a pivotal Thursday night clash against their divisional rival New Orleans Saints.
