Jets' Ryan Fitzpatrick: Status uncertain

Jets coach Todd Bowles said he doesn't know whether Fitzpatrick (knee) or Bryce Petty will start at quarterback once New York returns from its bye week, Connor Hughes of NJ.com reports.

Analysis:

Fitzpatrick was replaced in the Jets' starting lineup by Petty for Sunday's loss against the Rams, when he entered the contest coming off a practice week limited by a sprained MCL. Although the Jets' latest defeat pushed them further out of contention, thus making the second-year Petty more worthy of evaluation going forward, Bowles said Fitzpatrick would've played if he was healthy. With a bye week to recover further, that makes Fitzpatrick's depth chart pegging curious to monitor once the Jets reconvene next Monday, when Bowles is expected to reveal his ruling at quarterback.
