Romo inactive vs. Steelers

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

Tony Romo is at least another game away from suiting up for the first time this season.

The veteran quarterback was once again among the Dallas Cowboys' inactives for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, leaving Mark Sanchez as the lone signal-caller behind starter Dak Prescott.

Romo is thought to be nearing full strength in his ongoing recovery from a preseason back injury, as the most recent report suggested that he's now healthy, and his playing status would be left up to the coaching staff.

The question that remains is whether he'll regain his starting job after he reaches a point where the team is comfortable having him back on the game day roster.

Prescott remains at the helm for the time being, with his ninth start of the season giving him another chance to further state his case for the lead job down the stretch.

The fourth-round rookie has blown away any and all expectations by leading the Cowboys to a 7-1 record and a comfortable spot atop the NFC East.
