NFL investigating if Browns broke rules when RG3 threw pregame passes

The Cleveland Browns could be in hot water with the NFL because injured quarterback Robert Griffin III threw passes during pregame warmups Thursday.

Players on injured reserve are not allowed to be on the field for warmups within 60 minutes of kickoff.

Browns head coach Hue Jackson told reporters Friday that the NFL is conducting an investigation into whether his team broke league rules by having Griffin, who is on IR, work out on the field within 60 minutes of kickoff, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

Jackson said he doesn't believe the Browns broke any rules. Griffin is believed to have thrown passes to teammate Jordan Payton from about 7:00 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. - more than 60 minutes before the 8:25 p.m. start of Thursday night's game.

A photo taken by Cabot appears to prove Griffin and the Browns should be cleared of any wrongdoing:

Griffin started the season as the Browns' starter, but suffered a fractured left shoulder in Week 1 and was placed on IR. He is eligible to be activated to the active roster since eight weeks have passed, but is still weeks away from any potential return.
