Report: Goff unlikely to play until Rams out of playoff race

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 draft continues to await his opportunity.

Despite Case Keenum's struggles, the Los Angeles Rams have given no indication that they're considering turning to Jared Goff for the first snaps of his young career.

As NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday in an appearance on "Good Morning Football," a change is unlikely for as long as a playoff berth remains within the realm of possibility.

"My understanding of the Rams' quarterback situation is that they're not going to make a switch - barring some sort of epic collapse by Case Keenum - until they fall out of playoff contention," Rapoport said, according to Chris Wessling of NFL.com.

Goff was underwhelming for the better part of his four preseason appearances, completing just 44.9 percent of his passes, but pressure to bench Keenum is mounting in a hurry.

Los Angeles sits at a disappointing 3-5 mark at the midway point of the season. The passing attack ranking 25th and averaging just 234 yards per game is having a negative impact on the running game and a talented defense, causing many to wonder whether having the rookie take over could benefit the organization now and in the future.
