Buccaneers' Jameis Winston: Underwhelms despite mistake-free performance

Winston completed 16 of 32 passes for 180 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 30-24 overtime loss to the Raiders. He also gained 16 yards on three rushes.

Analysis:

Although he didn't turn the ball over, Winston's performance still has to be considered somewhat disappointing, considering the matchup against a vulnerable Raiders defense that also went without CB Sean Smith after the first play of the game. The sophomore quarterback only averaged 5.6 yards per attempt, and, after having burned the Rams for 405 yards back in Week 3, he's now failed to hit the 200-yard mark twice in the subsquent four games. He also came up small in the most crucial moments of the game, going just five of 12 for 34 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter and overtime. On the plus side, Winston now has multiple touchdowns in back-to-back contests for the first time this season, but he'll have to step up his game overall to get the Bucs over the hump. Tampa's Week 9 matchup is likely as good a game as any to start showing some improvement, as they welcome the high-powered Falcons offense to town for a Thursday night tussle.
