The Denver Broncos officially placed running back C.J. Anderson on injured reserve Saturday after he was forced to undergo knee surgery this week.

There were a number of conflicting reports on Anderson's expected recovery timeline over the last few days, but the IR designation will require that he misses at least the next eight weeks.

It remains to be seen whether he'll be cleared to play thereafter, but both player and team will presumably remain hopeful for a return during the playoffs.

Practice squad running back Juwan Thompson, who's appeared in 30 games over the past two seasons in Denver, was promoted to the active roster in a corresponding move. The former undrafted free agent now slots in as the Broncos' third back behind Devontae Booker and Kapri Bibbs.
