Browns announce McCown as starter vs. Jets

Josh McCown will return from injury and step back into a role as the starting quarterback for Sunday's matchup with the New York Jets, head coach Hue Jackson announced Friday.

Continued progress in his recovery from a shoulder injury had McCown trending toward returning this week - and the timing couldn't be much better for a Cleveland Browns team still in search of its first win.

After cycling through a number of quarterbacks over the first month of the season, Cody Kessler suffered a concussion last week that will force him to sit out at least one game.

When healthy, McCown has shown well across his nine starts since landing with the Browns last season.

The veteran will presumably hang on to the starting job until Kessler is cleared to return, at which point the Browns could turn back to the third-round rookie as a means of evaluating the roster for the future.
