Tate's recent success inspired by Week 4 benching

After being benched for running the wrong route and producing just 1 yard of offense against the Chicago Bears in Week 4, Detroit Lions receiver Golden Tate had no one to blame but himself.

Having one of the worst starts of his career, the seven-year veteran could feel something was wrong, so he took some time to himself to focus up.

"You've got two options: Make a play, or not make a play," Tate said he told himself, according to Kyle Meinke of Mlive.com. "Which GT do you want to be?"

Four weeks later, he's back on track as the reliable pass-catcher he's been throughout his NFL career, all thanks to that sit-down he received from his coaching staff.

"(The Chicago game) kind of lit a fire under my tail a little bit," said Tate. "I had to dig deep a little bit. I had to soul search and think about some things. But it just came down to one thing for me - be confident in who I am as a player, work my tail off, and control what I can control. And that's when the ball is thrown my way, make something happen."

Through his last two games, Tate's produced his best outputs this season, combining for 258 yards on 14 catches with one touchdown.
