Report: Patriots' Lewis expected back at practice this week

James Lang / USA TODAY Sports

New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis is expected to practice for the first time this season in the coming days, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Lewis has been on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list since before the season after a second knee surgery in August. The tailback had his left ACL repaired last November.

Once Lewis practices, the Patriots will have 21 days to activate him to the 53-man roster or shut him down for the season.

In Lewis's absence, LeGarrette Blount has posted 566 yards rushing, good for sixth in the NFL, and scored an NFL-best eight rushing touchdowns. Receiving back James White has also been impressive, totaling 244 yards through the air with three touchdowns.
