Falcons' Terron Ward: Promoted to active roster

Ward was promoted Tuesday from the Falcons' practice squad to the active roster, NFL Network's James Palmer reports.

Analysis:

The Falcons also signed veteran free agent Stevan Ridley, providing a strong hint that Tevin Coleman (hamstring) is in serious danger of missing Sunday's game against Green Bay. The team had only been carrying two healthy running backs in recent weeks, despite relying on both Coleman and Devonta Freeman to handle starring roles in the offense. Considering he's already spent quite a bit of time with the organization, Ward figures to slot in ahead of Ridley on the depth chart. Should Coleman ultimately sit out -- which seems increasingly likely -- Freeman could temporarily take on the kind of massive workload he handled for much of last season. Regardless of Ridley's involvement or lack thereof, Ward probably wouldn't replace all of Coleman's snaps and touches. Ward was Atlanta's No. 3 running back for the first couple weeks of the season, but he wasn't active for any games due to some combination of an ankle injury and team need.
