Steelers' Ladarius Green: Expected to practice Tuesday

Green (ankle) is expected to practice Tuesday for the first time since signing with the Steelers in March, Teresa Varley of Steelers.com reports.

Analysis:

Slow to recover from offseason ankle surgery, Green was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Aug. 30, ruling him out for at least the first six weeks of the season. Once he returns to practice, the Steelers will have 21 days to decide whether to activate him or leave him on the PUP list for the remainder of the year. The 26-year-old tight end said he's comfortable with his new team's playbook, but it remains to be seen how and if he's integrated into the offense midseason. Green was signed to a four-year, $20 million contract as the presumed replacement for the retired Heath Miller, but the Steelers have since received solid work from 22-year-old Jesse James in an every-down role. With the Steelers heading into a bye week, Green may have a shot to be ready for the team's next game -- a Week 9 tilt in Baltimore.
