Browns' Cody Kessler: Hoping to be cleared by Sunday

Kessler hopes to be cleared from his concussion in time to start Sunday against the Jets, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.

Analysis:

Kessler was diagnosed with a concussion after being hit in the head while completing a toss to Gary Barnidge during Sunday's game against the Bengals. Although Kessler's condition will require him to be cleared by an independent neurologist, he hopes that'll occur by this weekend's contest versus the Jets. While optimism from an injured player is hardly uncommon, the report suggests Kessler's concussion isn't severe. Regardless, veteran Josh McCown (collarbone) could be cleared from his own injury this week, giving the Browns another quarterback situation to monitor in the coming days, when rookie Kevin Hogan could also see more practice action than usual, as he's Cleveland's only fully healthy player at the position right now.
