Browns' Jackson says McCown could play next week

Scott R. Galvin / USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns started their sixth quarterback of the season on Sunday, and suffered their seventh loss.

Things are looking dire for winless Cleveland, but head coach Hue Jackson said help could be on the way, in the form of second-string quarterback Josh McCown.

Following Sunday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, Jackson said "there's a chance" McCown could play next week against the New York Jets.

McCown suffered a hairline fracture and strain in his left shoulder during Week 2, and has missed every game since. With first-stringer Robert Griffin III still out with a shoulder injury of his own, third-stringer Cody Kessler down with a concussion suffered Sunday, and the team relying on rookie fifth-round pick Kevin Hogan for the time being, McCown is sorely needed.
