Report: Bears hopeful Cutler can return in Week 8

Dennis Wierzbicki / USA TODAY Sports

With Brian Hoyer reportedly out at least eight weeks with a broken arm, the Chicago Bears need Jay Cutler - who missed the past five games with a thumb injury - back under center as soon as possible.

Cutler has still not been able to practice since suffering the injury, but the Bears are hopeful the veteran quarterback will be healthy enough to return for their Week 8 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, Jay Glazer reported Sunday on FOX Sports' pregame show.

The Bears will get an extra day to get Cutler healthy as they play the Vikings on Monday night.

When Hoyer went down in Thursday's loss to the Green Bay Packers, fourth-year pivot Matt Barkley finished out the game, completing 40 percent of his passes and throwing two interceptions.

Barkley would presumably be in line to start if Cutler is unable to suit up.
