Jets' Marshall says he's 'growing as an individual' after feud with Richardson

New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall is on the road for continual self-improvement, following a Week 3 feud with teammate Sheldon Richardson.

Marshall and Richardson entered a verbal confrontation following the loss, although head coach Todd Bowles downplayed the severity of the incident.

The Jets are mired in a four-game losing streak, but Marshall is focusing on the positives as his team gets ready to play the Baltimore Ravens.

"I'm growing, man," Marshall said Friday to Darryl Slater of NJ.com. "I'm growing as an individual. Obviously, it hasn't been perfect. But through adversity, character is built. I'm not saying I've been perfect throughout it, because it's really difficult to handle.

"But that's one of the positives from this start is, I love how I'm maturing and handling things better than I have in the past, when you're in a losing locker room or when adversity hits. That's been one of the things I've really focused on. I've got to continue to grow."

Marshall said he's going to continue to work on becoming a better communicator as the Jets look to escape the AFC East basement.

"It's so emotional, and you put so much into it," Marshall said. "You have so many alpha males in one room. It can be hard to communicate at times when you're fresh off of a disappointment.

"So I think the thing that we all have to continue to understand - especially in an environment that we're in right now - until we fix it and turn it around, is sometimes you've got to take time after those moments and take a deep breath. We just have to continue to communicate the right way."
