Vikings' Smith suggests he's 'too boring' for stardom

Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith is one of the NFL's best defensive players, but he's seldom received the attention he deserves, and the Pro Bowler devised a theory why that's the case.

"Maybe I’m too boring,” Smith said recently to Ben Baskin of Sports Illustrated. "Or normal. Or maybe it’s more fun this way."

Smith is the leader of the NFL's top-ranked scoring defense, helping his unit hold opponents to a paltry 12.6 points per game and is an integral reason why the Vikings remain the league's lone unbeaten team at 5-0.

The 27-year-old eschews celebrity, but said he wouldn't mind more attention being paid to his game.

"I won't say I don’t want people to talk about me, because of course I want that. But I want them to talk about me as a good football player," Smith said.

If Smith and the Vikings continue to march through the NFC unscathed, his national profile ought to rise considerably.
