Redskins place 1st-rounder Doctson on IR

The Washington Redskins placed 2016 first-round wide receiver Josh Doctson on injured reserve Friday due to an Achilles injury.

"I think it's best for him," said head coach Jay Gruden.

Doctson sustained the injury in training camp. He was able to play through it in the first two weeks of the season, but has been sidelined since.

Under the new IR rules, Doctson could be eligible to return in eight weeks.

The injury wasn't expected to be a long-term issue, but rest and rehab have reportedly done little to alleviate the rookie wideout's pain.

Doctson is reportedly being bothered by his Achilles tendons in both legs. However, a lack of structural damage has left team doctors perplexed.

In a corresponding move, the Redskins promoted wide receiver Maurice Harris.
