Watch: Steelers' Williams rips into Goodell for lax player safety policies

Charles LeClaire / USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams blasted commissioner Roger Goodell for the NFL's inconsistent player safety policies.

Williams directed his ire towards Goodell after Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict was fined $75,000 for stomping New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount. Burfict avoided suspension for this incident, but previously drew a three-game suspension for a repeated violation of player safety rules, including a hit that concussed Steelers superstar Antonio Brown.

Williams then sent out a video Thursday, clearly articulating his position.

Roger Goodell and the NFL will not allow football players into a football game with unapproved colors of cleats, socks, visors… none of that is legal in the game. They can take you out of the game or not let you into the game if you have illegal gear on.

However, it's fine for somebody to go in and purposely try to hurt someone. I don't get it.

You can be fined - and suspended - for smoking marijuana, whether it’s legal in that state or not. You can't smoke marijuana in the league, and he's (presumably Martavis Bryant) banned for a year because of what he was doing to his body. Right?
