Broncos' C.J. Anderson: Another mediocre outing in Week 6 loss

Anderson gained 37 yards on 10 carries and hauled in four of five targets for 34 yards in Thursday's 21-13 loss to the Chargers.

Analysis:

Anderson saw his carries drop for the second straight week, but did have a 20-yard touchdown reception wiped out by a holding penalty against Russell Okung late in the fourth quarter. On the plus side, he equaled a season high in receptions, although rookie Devontae Booker looked to be quicker and more decisive overall, something that certainly didn't escape the attention of the Broncos' coaching staff. It's becoming increasingly difficult to predict how the Denver backfield will shake out week to week, given Booker's emerging play, as well as the fact that Anderson has averaged 3.7 yards per carry or less in all but one contest this season. However, despite the fact that the team's run-heavy approach is likely to continue offering both backs a decent workload, Anderson's days as a primary ball carrier could be in the past.
