49ers' Colin Kaepernick: Agrees to restructured contract

The 49ers and Kaepernick agreed to a restructured contract Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Analysis:

The development comes on the heels of head coach Chip Kelly naming Kaepernick as the 49ers' starting quarterback moving forward. Although the final four years of his original deal have been wiped away, Kaepernick now has a player option for the 2017 season that allows him to void the contract before the league year begins in March and become an unrestricted free agent. In the interim, he'll attempt to channel the success he found under Jim Harbaugh, but Kaepernick's preseason returns under Kelly equated to 13 of 24 passing for 117 yards and eight rushes for 56 yards.
