Richard Sherman: Trump's 'locker room' excuse was cop out

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman became the latest to condemn Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for his comments about grabbing a women's genitals on Wednesday.

Audio from a 2005 conversation was released on Friday, where Trump spoke pejoratively about women to television host Billy Bush, telling him that he attempted to have sex with a married woman at the time.

Trump later downplayed his comments as "locker room talk", a notion that several athletes, including LeBron James, Michael Bennett, and Jamal Crawford, among others, dismissed.

"I think it was a cop out. He needed some way to divert attention from himself," Sherman said according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times.

Sherman also downplayed the prospect of squaring off exclusively against Atlanta Falcons superstar Julio Jones on Sunday. The Seahawks' All-Pro cornerback usually plays the left side of the field, regardless of opponent, and it'll be compelling to see whether Sherman shadows the NFL's third-leading receiver.
