Benched Blaine Gabbert: 'It sucks'

Kyle Terada / USA TODAY Sports

Blaine Gabbert didn't hold back his feelings about being benched when speaking to reporters Tuesday.

After San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly announced that Colin Kaepernick will start over Gabbert this Sunday, the former starter didn't hide his disappointment.

"It sucks," Gabbert told the media. "I don't like it."

After losing to the Arizona Cardinals last Thursday night, Kelly said he would re-evaluate the offense, which led to Kaepernick getting the start. Kelly went on to say that he wasn't placing all the blame on Gabbert, but after four straight losses, a change needed to be made.

"We were very analytical and sat down as a staff, watched the tape and went over everything," Kelly said according to CSNBayArea.com's Matt Maiocco.

"We’ve had a couple of days to kind of digest everything, where we are. I think offensively. It’s not Blaine’s fault. As a group, offensively, we need to be better in a lot of ways."

Regardless of whose fault it is, nobody likes to be benched.
