Bears' Fox: 'We don't have a plan' for QB position

Jay Cutler or Brian Hoyer? Nobody knows, including the Chicago Bears.

Asked Monday why he's yet to share the team's plan at starting quarterback when Cutler is cleared to return from a thumb injury, head coach John Fox gave what appeared to be the most honest answer possible.

"We don't have a plan," Fox told reporters.

Well, there you go. Fox previously indicated Hoyer would have an opportunity to keep the starting job beyond Cutler's return, and his respectable performances over the past three weeks have presumably given him an even stronger case.

Though it appears increasingly likely the Bears will part ways with Cutler and his massive contract in the offseason, whether they'd bench him in favor of a journeyman quarterback remains to be seen.

The first step toward any such decision would be Cutler returning to practice, which he was unable to do last week before again being listed as doubtful.

Hoyer has connected on 100-of-140 pass attempts over his three-plus games under center, racking up 1,094 yards, six touchdowns, and no interceptions.
