Cardinals' David Johnson: 'I feel unstoppable'

Throughout the offseason, Arizona Cardinals coaches and general manager Steve Keim lauded the potential of second-year back David Johnson.

He was billed by them as the league's next great running back, and over the first five games of the season, Johnson has proved them right.

The 24-year-old's place among the league's best runners was arguably cemented in Thursday's dominant performance against the San Francisco 49ers.

With quarterback Carson Palmer sidelined with a concussion, the Cardinals asked Johnson to carry the team on his back, and he responded with a two-touchdown, 185-yard performance.

"I feel unstoppable, basically," Johnson said of when he gets rolling, according to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com. "Especially with the help of the guys blocking, the tight ends, the receivers and, obviously, the O-line. It helps me get going. It helps me get into the flow of being able to break some of those tackles, being able to get the yards that we needed."

While Johnson's play had been good to start the season, head coach Bruce Arians criticized him several weeks ago for his inconsistency. But after showing improved patience Thursday night, Arians opted to run the offense through him the entire game.

"That's what we expected out of him the whole time," Arians said. "He doesn't have to do it all, just take what's there."
