Browns' Robert Griffin: Further examination this week

Griffin will have his injured left shoulder further examined this week, at which point it could be determined whether or not he'll need surgery, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Analysis:

Griffin has been on injured reserve since getting hurt in Week 1, but reportedly holds a chance of returning later this season if all goes well with his shoulder. His further evaluation this week should help clarify his recovery timetable, which may hinge on whether he requires surgery. Regardless, Griffin isn't expected back anytime soon, and with Josh McCown (collarbone) out as well, rookie Cody Kessler will continue to start at quarterback for the Browns.
