Bucs HC Koetter 'very concerned' about Winston's play

Jameis Winston's turnover-filled start to 2016 has Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter searching for answers.

The quarterback has eight interceptions over the first four games of the season after throwing 15 in his rookie year, and Koetter was asked how concerned he was with Winston after Sunday's 27-7 loss to the Denver Broncos.

"Very,'' said Koetter, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. "I'm very concerned.

"He's not regressing, but we've got to take care of the football. I mean, we've got to take care of the football. We can't turn it over three times in a half. We just can't do that.''

Winston was picked off twice by Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib, which led to two short scoring drives for Denver.

After the game, Talib said the defense knew they'd "have five-to-six opportunities today to get our hands on a football" because of Winston's tendency to force the ball into tight coverage.

In fairness to Winston, the Bucs' offense has faced a murderers row of defenses to start the season. After playing the Carolina Panthers in Week 5, the Bucs' schedule eases off considerably.

If Tampa Bay is to take advantage and get their season back on track, Koetter emphasized that Winston must learn to stop always looking for a home run.

"Not every play is going to be a big play,'' Koetter said. "We went through this very similar thing the first four games last season. And hopefully we'll learn the same lesson we learned last year and get on a little roll here.''
