Report: Giants to work out Donte Whitner

Ken Blaze / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants will work out veteran free-agent safety Donte Whitner on Sunday, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The team doesn't appear to have a need at starting safety with Landon Collins and Nat Berhe already in the lineup, but with a lack of veteran leadership at the position, Whitner's 10 seasons of experience could prove useful.

Though it would be a short turnaround, Whitner could be in the lineup Week 4 as the Giants take on the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night.

Whitner, a three-time Pro Bowler, spent the last two seasons playing for the Cleveland Browns.
