Texans' Watt officially out for season

Erich Schlegel / USA TODAY Sports

Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien confirmed Friday that star defensive end J.J. Watt is officially out for the rest of the 2016 season.

The 27-year-old reigning Defensive Player of the Year underwent back surgery Thursday. It was the second back surgery in three months for the Texans' best player.

Houston will have to navigate the remaining 13 weeks of the season without him, but can build on a 2-1 start.

Watt will turn his focus to rehabilitation, and the football community will have to wait and see if the four-time Pro Bowler can return to the game at his same otherworldly level of play.
