Gruden 'very concerned' about Doctson's Achilles issue

Josh Doctson still finds himself working to overcome an Achilles injury that first occured in the offseason, and the Washington Redskins don't exactly appear encouraged with the relative lack of progress.

Head coach Jay Gruden told reporters Wednesday that while recent rests haven't shown any further damage, he's "very concerned" about his first-round rookie wideout.

Doctson first suffered the injury in May and was forced to miss all training camp and preseason work before making enough progress to be cleared for Week 1.

He saw limited action in the first two games, hauling in two receptions for 66 yards, but some discomfort ahead of a Week 3 matchup with the New York Giants resulted in him being made a late scratch.

Gruden explained Wednesday that the club is trying different treatments and that Doctson's availability will come down to pain management.

Whether he plays Sunday against the Cleveland Browns will likely depend on his ability to practice at least once beforehand. Given the back-and-forth to this point, though, it would be no surprise to see the Redskins proceed with caution.

The former TCU standout projects as a top target for the Washington passing game long term. For the time being, he sits buried on the depth chart behind DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, and Jamison Crowder.
