Fisher: Success of rookie QBs won't impact Goff's timeline

It's the year of the rookie quarterback in the NFL, save for the most highly touted of the bunch.

As a pair of first-year signal-callers - Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott - continue to thrive in starting roles elsewhere, Jared Goff remains buried behind Case Keenum on the Los Angeles Rams' depth chart.

Jeff Fisher has taken notice of the other players' success, but that won't do anything to accelerate the timeline the team put in place for the No. 1 overall pick.

"No," Fisher said, according to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.

"I spoke on that. I'm happy for young quarterbacks when they have success, but we have our own sense of timing here with him. The quarterbacks are having success because of injuries. As I mentioned last week, had we not had the injuries that we did in the league, probably all four of those quarterbacks either would be inactive or backups."

Having rebounded from a disastrous shutout loss to open the season in prime time, the Rams now sit tied atop the NFC West at 2-1.

While Keenum's play may still be underwhelming, leaving the offense without a dependable passing game, the patience with which the Rams are overseeing Goff's development is unlikely to change for as long as they remain competitive.

Fisher explained last week that there's "still a gap" between Goff and his veteran counterpart.

The former Cal star struggled in his four preseason appearances over the summer, completing just 22-of-49 passes for 232 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
