Vikings' Laquon Treadwell: Needs to improve in practice

Head coach Mike Zimmer said Treadwell needs to practice better in order to get on the field in games, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Analysis:

The Vikings brought Stefon Diggs along slowly early last season, and then watched him quickly establish himself as the team's No. 1 wideout. Granted, Treadwell's situation isn't quite analogous, as the team lacked a true top option last season prior to Diggs' emergence -- which is no longer a problem with the second-year wideout and TE Kyle Rudolph both thriving. However, the Minnesota passing game could still use a boost, as starting wide receiver Charles Johnson has caught just three passes for 20 yards on 10 targets, still showing minimal ability to separate from NFL cornerbacks. The hulking Treadwell could eventually make for a perfect complement to the speedy Diggs, but the rookie will first need to improve in practice if he's going to make a significant impact at any point this year. Treadwell was a healthy scratch for Sunday's win in Carolina.
