Mariota laments turnovers: 'I am trying to do too much'

Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota has fallen far short of expectations to start 2016.

In the first three games, the second-year passer has four touchdown passes and six turnovers (four interceptions, two lost fumbles), while the Titans have stumbled to a 1-2 record.

Mariota's struggles were highlighted by three turnovers in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Oakland Raiders, and the former No. 2 overall pick knows he has to stop forcing plays.

"I am trying to do too much, fight for a first down rather than just moving on and taking care of the football," Mariota said, according to Jason Wolf of The Tennessean. "Yeah, and you know that's things that I have worked on, it's part of the game, but I got to find ways to be better. I can't put our defense in situations like that. You know, I will get better."

The Titans' offense has looked sluggish as a whole, with poor play-calling and a lack of playmakers stifling the unit. While Mariota's play has been underwhelming, the young quarterback is still far from Tennessee's biggest issue.
