Giants' Paul Perkins: 'Ready to step up'

Head coach Ben McAdoo said Monday that Perkins is "ready to step up" in the wake of Shane Vereen's season-ending triceps injury.

Analysis:

Vereen served as Rashad Jennings' (thumb) replacement Sunday against the Redskins, posting a team-leading 67 rushing yards and corralling two passes to boot. With Vereen sidelined moving forward and Jennings' status up in the air, the Giants may employ a committee approach with their backfield in flux in the short term. Granted, Orleans Darkwa spelled Vereen on Sunday and turned 10 carries into 53 yards and a touchdown, while Bobby Rainey caught one of two passes for 24 yards. Active for the first time in his career in Week 3, Perkins didn't manage any touches whatsoever, but Monday's endorsement from McAdoo implies that his professional introduction is near.
