Patriots' McCourty dismisses notion of Brady as system QB

Boasting a resume that includes 11 Pro Bowl selections, four Super Bowl victories, and two MVP awards, even Tom Brady's most ardent critics will concede that he's an all-time great.

Brady, who is currently serving a four-game suspension, has been forced to watch the Patriots' 3-0 start from home. Backups Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett have thrived, leading some to deride Brady as a product of head coach Bill Belichick's system.

New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty took issue with that description and lauded Brady, saying he has a place in history.

"Just a system guy? That’s wrong. Obviously, everyone knows Tom Brady's legend. His game speaks for itself," McCourty said Friday on NFL Network. "We obviously can't wait to have him back in the locker room, he’s the leader on our team. To say that is ridiculous. Obviously, here in New England we find ways to win. It’s a little different here without Tom but to try to say he's a system quarterback I don't even think you should waste your time asking questions like that."

Brady is expected to return in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.
