Packers' Matthews, Burnett ruled out vs. Lions

Joe Nicholson / USA TODAY Sports

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews will sit out Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions after being downgraded to "out" in an injury report update released Saturday.

Matthews was given a chance to play, receiving a questionable tag Friday after sitting out the practice week with hamstring and ankle issues, but he evidently wasn't able to make enough progress thereafter.

Injuries are a concern for Green Bay throughout the defensive side of the ball. Safety Morgan Burnett was also ruled out Saturday, while defensive linemen Letroy Guion and Datone Jones were downgraded to doubtful.

The Packers are looking to bounce back from last week's disappointing loss to the Minnesota Vikings and avoid slipping below the .500 mark.
